Volunteering to change the world

VOLUNTEER FROM HOME: The DIY Angel Project to Benefit Children in Need & Earn Community Service Hours

We’re all familiar with the concept of working from home, but have you thought about the benefits of volunteering from home?  There are plenty of reasons why volunteering can sometimes be difficult despite your best intentions.  Life is busy.  You’re working long hours.  You don’t have easy access to volunteer activities in your community.  We get it, which is why we created this blog, Make a Difference From Home.  Volunteering from home is super fun and  a great way to gather family and friends together to make the world a better place.

There are so many ways to give back from the comfort of your own home.  Since 2012, Small Acts Big Change has partnered with Foothill Unity Center and hundreds of wonderful volunteers to help bring the holidays to children in need by decorating paper angels.  Volunteers of all ages can help on this one from 2 years old to 102.  Would you like to help too?

TIPS:
  • We happily accept decorated angels all year long.
  • So that the angels are sized correct, please print your angels on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper.
  • Decorate as simply or as creatively as you like.  There are no rules except to have fun while giving back.

HOW TO:
1) Print blank angels on 8.5×11 paper and cut them out – please see template.  Note: the angels must be cut out in order to receive service hours.  Angel template
2) Decorate the angels using materials you have on hand such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, paint, stickers, etc. You can be as creative or as simple as you want to be in your decorating.
3) Mail your angels to us please: Angel Project/Adopt an Angel, Small Acts Big Change, PO Box 1374, La Canada, CA 91012.  We receive decorated angels all year long.

Our project partner, Foothill Unity Center, will label each decorated angel with the name and age of a child in need. People in the community can “adopt” an angel off a tree and buy holiday presents for an underprivileged child. Thanks to your help, hundreds of decorated angels will be placed on holiday trees all over the Los Angeles community in the months of November and December.
